Meet Noelia: civil servant and home sharing host in El Cabanyal, Valencia

I have always shared my home with people. For me, it’s the most normal thing: it’s a way of life.” Noelia started hosting students that needed to spend some months in Valencia. She then decided to share a spare room in her home through Airbnb.

In her El Cabanyal apartment, she has hosted more than 100 people. Noelia welcomes their guests, along with her dog Lluna, and tells them about El Cabanyal’s authentic spirit.

“If I weren’t sharing my home, there would be people I would have never met or talked to”

For years, neighbours in El Cabanyal fought against the building of a long avenue that would have destroyed the area and Noelia wants her guests to learn what makes El Cabanyal so unique. In fact, Noelia, along with other home sharing hosts, created the association “Amfitrions Veïns de València” to defend their activity in front of the authorities.

I live alone, and home sharing helps me pay my mortgage“, explains Noelia. “But if I weren’t sharing my home, there would be people I would have never met or talked to“.

She speaks six languages and loves making her guests feel at home. “One of my guests was a woman travelling alone, and I discovered her favourite fruit was persimmons. So I took her to eat persimmons in my family’s garden. With other travellers, I have gone hiking, barbequing, we have eaten in the ‘chiringuitos‘ by the sea… I can’t imagine another way of life“.
